Jamie Cheever
Track & Field
Hi, my name is Jamie. I was born in Palo Alto, CA, but my heart is in Minneapolis, MN. My sport is Track, and I have been competing in it since I was 14 or as soon as I could move, depending on how you look at it years old.
My favorite workout is hills or 400s with barriers. I am inspired by my Grandpa, Herb, and my speedy teammates and my strong competitors in the steeplechase keep me motivated.
My favorite food is cheese. I relax by reading, and love listening to Dessa.
My pre-competition ritual is focusing on breathing and listening to Minneapolis rap artists.
What's the secret to my success? Keeping running in perspective, treating my body well, and trying to challenge myself every day.
What Jamie says about InHealth
I feel so lucky to work with all the great medical providers at InHealth. Everyone who works at InHealth is very knowledgeable about keeping athletes healthy, and they live the same lifestyle as their clients. The chiropractors and athletic trainers work together to give me the best possible treatment plan.
Bio
Jamie Cheever is a steeplechaser and an aspiring lawyer. She grew up in Minneapolis, where she spent her time playing soccer and hockey, walking her pug, Scout, and perfecting the long o’s in her speech. She was a three time All-American for the University of Minnesota and then ran professionally for Team USA Minnesota from 2010-2013.
In 2013, she moved to Seattle to join the Brooks Beast Track Club and escape running in snow storms. She had a tough first year after tearing the labrum in her hip, but after having surgery came back to have a successful 2015 track season in which she achieved the Olympic A standard in the steeplechase. As she heads into the Olympic year, she has partnered with Oiselle in her quest to make the 2016 Rio Olympic Team.
Jamie is passionate about social justice and women’s rights. After her professional running career ends, Jamie wants to dedicate her time to supporting victims of sexual violence in the legal system. She plans on attending law school and continuing to learn how to eliminate sexual violence. In the meantime, Jamie has volunteered with Ramsey County Sexual Offense Services, Bolder Options, and recently started with the Victim Support Team within the Seattle Police Department.
